Arlington, VA – Today, Maureen Coffey is excited to announce the endorsements of two influential regional labor organizations, Northern Virginia Labor Federation, AFL-CIO (“NOVA Labor”), and the Mid-Atlantic Pipe Trades Association (“MAPTA”). NOVA Labor unanimously endorsed Coffey for Arlington County Board (“the Board”) on March 31, 2023 following MAPTA’s endorsement Coffey on March 30, 2023. Coffey is seeking the Democratic nomination for one of two open Arlington County Board seats in 2023.

“The Northern Virginia Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, is proud to announce our endorsement of Maureen Coffey for Arlington County Board. Maureen is a union member who has an impressive understanding of the needs and challenges facing working people in Arlington. She will provide an important perspective and make an excellent addition to the Board,” said Virginia Diamond, President of the NOVA Labor.

Jason Ascher, the Political Director for MAPTA, said, “Maureen Coffey has a deep respect for workers that shows through her thorough policy knowledge and willingness to engage with our local unions and trades workers. We’re proud to endorse her for Arlington County Board and plan to do everything we can to help her win.”

After receiving the endorsements, Coffey said, “Economic stability begins with good jobs. Labor unions are at the front of the fight for better wages and benefits which are integral for working families to thrive. As economic inequality worsens, we need strong labor leadership now more than ever. I’m grateful for the confidence NOVA Labor and MAPTA have placed in me, and I’m proud to now have the support of three organizations representing working-class people.” Coffey was previously endorsed by IBEW Local 26 in March.

Coffey is a member of IFPTE Local 70, also known as the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union. She believes that workers’ voices are integral to economic prosperity as a community and hopes to become the only current union member on the Arlington County Board.
